Originally from Acton, Ontario, Chris spent his early years working and playing at Blue Springs Golf Club, the home of the PGA of Canada. It was here that he developed his love for the game and passion for the business and operational side of golf. As part of his journey to turn this devotion into a dream career, Chris honed his golf skills through competitive junior ranks and later graduated from Niagara College’s Business Administration – Professional Golf Management program, where he played on the Niagara Knights varsity golf team.
With over 13 years of private club management experience, Chris established himself in Muskoka in 2014 and has since worked at notable clubs such as Muskoka Bay Club, Rocky Crest, Grandview and The Lake Joseph Club. To deepen his involvement and understanding for the uniqueness of our region, he is actively involved in many community and Provincial initiatives including: PGA of Ontario Muskoka Chapter Chair, Golf Muskoka – Vice President and currently sits on Board of Directors for the Muskoka Lakes Chamber of Commerce.
Chris takes a hands-on, lead by example approach with his team and has always enjoyed the mentoring component of his previous roles. He firmly believes in the philosophy that “people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel” and looks forward to fostering that culture at Port Carling to deliver a world-class golf experience for our members and guests.

John Gutierrez

Associate Professional

As a native Texan, Go Cowboys, John spent his formative years surrounded by sports and had to make new friends regularly being the son of military parents who were often relocated to different areas of the country. He has lived in Hawaii, Florida, and Virginia but most of his time was spent in a small town named Beeville, Texas. He studied at Southwest Texas State University before moving to Canada in 2001 with his wonderful wife Tracey and first daughter, Keira. Since laying roots in the Midland area, they have been blessed with two other boys, now teenagers, Gavin and Jarret. Before moving to Ontario his passion for competition led him to US Open and US Amateur qualifiers where he narrowly missed making it, but was an alternate at a local event.
Having worked as the Associate Professional at Midland Golf and Country Club for a numbers of years, and most recently at The Lake Joseph Club, he brings a well-rounded knowledge base of all aspects within the golf operation, which compliments his genuine desire to deliver a first-class experience and service levels to our membership. He believes that attention to detail, teamwork and strong execution of member events are all integral parts to making a club special and is eager to infuse his optimistic and positive perspective to make each visit to the club a memorable one. His philosophy to golf instruction was inspired by Harvey Penick and strikes a fine balance between technical swing changes and an improvement to the mental side of the game. This approach allows him to connect with his students and fosters a unique learning environment that is individually focused to achieve your goals.

Alex Catherwood

Associate Professional

Alex hails originally from the town of Uxbridge, Ontario.  A lover of sport, he passes much of his time
away from golf playing hockey and snowboarding with his wife Rebecca. His father introduced him to the game of golf at the age of 9 and immediately his passion showed.  Several summer were spent playing 27 holes a day with his brother Nick at Foxbridge Golf Club.  It was clear that golf would play a big role in his life, and he began his career in golf working his summers while attending the University of Ottawa working at The Briars Golf Club on Lake Simcoe.  Upon completing his university degree, Alex accepted a role at Copper Point Golf Club in beautiful Invermere, British Columbia.  

More recently, Alex has been building his knowledge and experience at Clublink’s operarions office, specializing in accounting and merchandising.  After nearly 10 years, he returned to the club level by accepting the role of Associate Professional at the Lake Joseph Club.  As with many of us, it did not take long for Muskoka to find its way into his heart, and has now joined the team here at Port Carling.  Alex is excited to showcase his work ethic and drive to make everyone feel at home at the club.  His team-oriented approach and high attention to detail will go a long way to endear himself to members. He loves to stay up to date on the latest equipment and tech, and would never pass up the opportunity to converse with any who shares his interests.

Domenic Spedaliere

Assistant Professional

Born in Toronto, Ontario, Domenic always had an affinity for golf, even before getting his first clubs on his birthday at the age of 8. He brings a variety of experience, from construction to communications, and is excited to be able to transfer some of his professional skills to his passion. Domenic has also spent time inside the golf world, having worked at top GTA facilities Mississaugua G&CC, Credit Valley G&CC, which fueled his desire to turn to golf for a career. In 2020, he jumped head-first into the golf world and successfully played-in for PGA membership. No stranger to competitive athletics he also played soccer in his youth and was a member of the All-Ontario Provincial Team and continued his education while competing in the NCAA Sunshine State Conference.
As a lover of the outdoors, some of Domenic’s favorite hobbies include fishing, back-country portaging and snowboarding excursions. To him, there is no real substitute to the experience of being capsized, stuck in the woods in the middle of the night or chest deep in snow! Some of his more tame hobbies include playing a few instruments, other sports and games, and experimenting in the kitchen with family and friends. 
Whether it is through providing services or playing, Domenic hopes to share his love of the game through his interactions with other golfers. While he is usually easy-going on the course, he also likes to see players improve through a sense of healthy competition, which he offers freely.

Sam Gordon

Golf Shop Associate

From the beaches area in Toronto, Ontario, Sam is a recent graduate of the Sport Management program at Brock University. He was introduced to the game through his first job growing up at the beach fairway driving range. A few years later in high-school, Sam played his first round of golf at the Toronto Hunt Club which marked the beginning of his amateur career.
He brings a diverse skill set from his experience working at several courses in both Ontario and Alberta over the past few summers. These courses include the Toronto Hunt Club, Silvertip, and Niagara-On-The-Lake Golf Club. Sam has always cherished his time working at golf courses, and believes it has played a vital role in his development as a young professional and adult. Sam hopes to bring a youthful perspective, gain further experience in the golf and sport industry, and learn from his fellow professional staff as mentors. Furthermore, he strives to provide outstanding service, and to develop meaningful relationships with the Port Carling membership.
Aside from golf, Sam comes from a big family and is a dog lover. Although he grew up as a city boy, he takes any chance to escape up north to enjoy the great outdoors. Some of his hobbies include personal fitness, watching sports, fishing, and spending time with friends. Sam is thrilled to be a part of the Port Carling team and looks forward to the season ahead!
